Good morning everyone. I have a quick question: I have created a movie that is about 15 minutes in length and the client requested a change in the audio. In the movie I have narrative mixed with ambient background music. The length and timing are identical even with the change so what I would like to do since the movie is already rendered (which took about 7 hours) is render the audio separately and then paste into the existing movie. Make sense? Can that be done in Quicktime, Final Cut, After Effects, etc? If not, what program (on the mac) would be the best place to do that simply so I can save it out without re-rendering the entire project?

    Thank you,

    Dave

I’m -pretty- sure you can do that with quicktime, but I don’t own it so I have no way of checking. Good as place to look for the feature as any though.

Only in after effects do children get to pick and whip their parents.

    Your could …

Import your rendered video file back into AE, add it to a new comp, turn off its layer’s audio, add the new audio as another layer and render. It will render much faster since the video won’t need to re-render.

Open a copy of your rendered video file in QT Pro, go to Movie Properties and delete the existing audio track(s), open your audio file in another QTP instance, select all & copy, go back to your video file and “add to movie”. If the new audio track is not exactly the same length, you may have sync or similar issues.

By the way, in my humble opinion, every video professional (and even serious hobbyist) should own QuickTime Pro … for only $30 it is well worth it for all the things it can do.

Paul, glad to finally have an opportunity to tell you I absolutely love your observation about the child-parent relationship in AE! lol
