  • Adding an Expression to a Layer Control Property?

Posted by Christopher Bly on November 27, 2018 at 5:15 pm

Essentially, I am building a preset that uses the Set Matte effect several times. Each Set Matte should reference the same layer, so it would be extremely nice if I could use an expression to link each of these controls to a single Layer Control effect rather than having to change each layer control individually. The Layer property can’t be keyframed and therefore doesn’t have a stopwatch, so I’m unable to use the regular technique of applying an expression via alt+clicking on the stopwatch.
Does anyone know how I can apply an expression to this property? If it can be done, my assumption is that it must be done using ExtendScript. I am also open to ideas on other ways I may be able to solve this issue?

There’s no way to apply an expression to that property.

You could use a script to set the property for each effect, linking it to the appropriate layer, but I don’t know if having to run a script messes up your workflow…
