  • Adding a menu to a completed DVD?

Posted by Allen Zagel on March 28, 2006 at 12:52 am

    Hi
A friend sent me a DVD which is already completed. He didn’t put a menu on it with scene selections, which it needs. He asked me if I could add the menu.

I have 6 VOB files on the DVD. I know I can bring it into Vegas 5.0d by just changing the VOB to MPG. I’ve done that before.

So could I bring it into DVDA-2 and add a menu without re-rendering the entire video? Maybe the audio would be re-rendered though.

    Thanks
    Allen

It would be best if you can go back to the original file(s). At this point, you have several VOB files. Assuming you can do as you mentioned and just add them in DVDA, you’ll have to end-action from one to the other which has several disadvantages such as a slight pause between pieces of media.

1.- Make (join) just 1 mpeg (or VOB) video with VideoRedo from the actual VOB files..this is fast and avoids re-rendering…. if you have the disk, you can also use DVDdecrypter to join the VOBs in 1 without rerender.
2.- Import media (1 video) in DVDarch and proceed inserting chapters, menus, etc.

    Hi EOR
What is VideoRedo and DVDdecrypter? Guess I’ll just Google them and find out. Yes, I have the disk. Is one better over the other? Guess I move the files to my HD and then combine them?

The disk is not copy protected and the fellow who made the DVD asked me if I could/would do it from the DVD. Then he doesn’t have to send me the original master right now. So this is all legal.

    Thanks much

    Allen,
You can download most of these utilities from videohelp.com . DVDdecrypter is a handy program to have and it’s free.

    Hi
Got DVDDecriptor, installed it and found a tutorial at doom9.org

However when I ran it it came up with all the files chosen and when I ripped it it was the same as if I just copied the files from the DVD to my hard drive. Wasn’t put together that I could see. Still had all the BUP, IFO and VOB’s all in seperate files.

Sorry but I don’t know what I’m doing here. Could you give me some help please? I thought I’d have just one file with the entire program and audio.

    Thanks
    Allen

run decrypter in IFO Mode with “none” file splitting on IFO settings (from Tools menu)…. this way decrypter will “rip” the video files in just 1 big VOB file (you can later get rid of the IFOs & BUP files) that you can use as your main media on DVDarch….. now you can add chapters, insert scene selections, menus, etc….

    hope this helps….
