  • Adding a layer for DVD menu

Hi. I’m just starting to use motion to create dvd menus, and have been shown how to add text and graphic items to the photoshop files I have for my menu, but cannot remember how to simply add another layer onto which I will put the blacked-out shapes of all the menu items, so that when a mouse hovers over them, they will change to black when the dvd is being used. I know I have to add a colour solid layer – but cannot for the life of me see how to do this simple operation! Thanks, Andy

I just create a new group, put a big white rectangle shape in it covering the full canvas, then add black shapes for the overlays. Then export this black and white image as a pict or jpg, and then turn off the group so that it won’t show up in the actual menu. Import both the Motion project file and the image into DVDSP – apply the project file as the menu and the image as the overlay, then draw your buttons to expose the overlay (button highlights).
