Adding a filter over all tracks
Hi there.
I’m looking to add a filter over all the tracks below it.
For example, in option 1) I’ve got a shot keyed over another. I want a lens flare to effect both of the clips. In Avid, I’d just stick the effect on the next track up, and it’d happily render itself over wha it saw below. But without nesting, (which I don’t want to get into due to other edits either side) I can’t work out what to do. or,
Option 2) I want to puy in a ‘flash – overexpose’ effect over an edit (like dipping in and out of white, but overexposing in and out using digital film tools.) again, in avid, I’d just put this on the top track, keframe a high point in the middle, and a low point at the beginning and end, then render – but I can’t do that in FCP. (Overexpose is a filter, not a transition, but if I put the value from 0 to 50 back to 0 again, it’s as good as).
Is there anyway, other than nesting that I can put effects over everythign? anyway to use a matte, or the slug, or something?
And while I’m at it, is there any way to not update the canvas with an effect’s preview? I’ve got the “play base layer only” part checked, but I’m sticking on some serious filters here, and it takes 10 sec each time to update the canvas with the effect image. I know what it’s going to look like, so I’d rather just apply, and move on, without waiting for it to render one frame. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
