adding a clip beginner question
Hi.I am making a compilation of video clips and photos along with music and sound affects on Platinum pro 9. Its been taking me several weeks (ok, months) to compile, and I am up to 18 minutes of video.
Today I opened a single clip and intentionally did some clipping and reversing of alternate clips in order to enhance an action. I saved it with a name.
I can’t seem to add this clip to the 18 minute compilation, no matter what I do. If I drag it to the end of my original video, the original video disappears, and the single clip is left on the time line.What am I doing wrong? PLease help. Thank you kindly.

Check to see if the original clip that disappeared has actually moved down the timeline? If it has, you probably have Ripple Edit on. Turn it off (Ctrl+L). Ripple edit will make room for new clips but sometimes it moves things when you don’t want it to.

No, thats not it. The original project closes and the new clip opens in the timeline. The new clip ( which was a short taken from another movie) is saved as a .vf file. Is that my problem? Can I not have two .vf files in the same project?
I have other clips from that movie inserted just fine but now I don’t remember how I did it successfully.Please help.

Can I not have two .vf files in the same project?
No. The .vf is the project itself. When you open a .vf you are opening a new project. You can only place multiple media files on the timeline. You cannot have multiple projects.

Thank you John. That mystery is solved. So my next question is… How do I cut a small clip from one project and save it to use in another project? I already did it with two other small clips, and for the life of me I can’t remember how I did it.

You can cut and paste between projects. Open two copies of Movie Studio and cut from one timeline and paste into the other.
The only other way is to render the small clip to an AVI or other appropriate file type for the media you are using and then drop it into another project.
