    Put a color matte underneath the image and crop to a slightly larger size than the image above it. Or use a third party filter. CGM Online has one.

    If you need the border to move with the image, nest the color matte Tom mentions above with the footage.

    To make the nest, select both layers and then hit Option-C. Name it appropriately.

    Option double click the nest in the time line to load it into the viewer, then use the motion tab to move the nest around.

    Hi Two Toms!

    actually, i found a good workaround. i only needed the border to appear on one side of the cropped image, so i added a shadow via the motion tab. made it opaque, black, and no softness. it looks like a border!
