  • adding 4×3 footage to 16×9 timeline

I have a 16×9 timeline, and I need to place 4×3 footage into it, with the beautiful “curtains” on either side of the picture to fill in the rest of the screen.

How do I keep the 4×3 footage its original dimensions. Every time I edit the footage in, it stretches it. I’ve tried pan and scan with no luck.

    Any help would be appreciated.

You need to add from the reformat section the 4:3 sidebars. It will keep the full 4:3 source aspect ratio inside the 1:9 anamorphic video. Using the Pan & Scan effect will allow you to do a tilt and scan where you need to crop the 16:9 from the 4:3 by moving the frame up and down on the original image. This will create a 16:9 anamorphic from the 4:3 source.
