  • Added text but it stops after a few seconds, need it for entire video?

Posted by Derek Richards on May 29, 2019 at 8:51 pm

HI, I am making a video for church on the Last Supper and I have followed every post i have seen on the Net. I bring up the text box and drop it down to the video track above my Last Supper video and type the words in and then when I play it back it only plays it for a few seconds. I mean, I have tried everything. So, can you help me, actually I want the lyrics or words to just run from beginning to end. Can ‘t believe this is so difficult, yes, I extended the duration and all sorts of other settings, well, will stop here, am sure it is a simple fix, thanks for listening and assisting, RD

    Hi Derek,

What version and build of Vegas are you using? What Generated Media Text FX are you using?

Also, to save time going back and forth with suggestions, that you have already tried, maybe list what you have tried.

And, can you post a screenshot of your project, with the Text FX showing in the timeline?

    Best Regards……George

Well,I found workaround, using lots of text boxes. I had this same problem when I was at college, everyone just faked their way around projects instead of really learning how to use the hardware. First of all, why would it be so hard to have a running script to follow the video right through to the end? Who designs these programs. If it had digital expertise, i would be able to come up with everyday solutions to some of these snags…but alas, I have to just, the expression, “Git Er Done”

OH ,I am using Sony Vegas Pro 11, and it won’t record more than two or three audio tracks, cracking, popping, won’t playback properlyl…can record 23 tracks in Reaper, no problem, but is still the best video proggie, but horrible audio one!

Hi Derek. Vegas is a phenomenal Digital Audio Editor (DAW) too. VP started as a DAW.

As to running a Lower Third, your Text, for the whole of the Video is a simple process and does not require the “solution” you’ve come up with. But, like George, I too require a Screen Grab of your Timeline to get a complete view of the process your doing. We’re here to help.

Well to have any text image or any other media (if it’s video it may loop around back to the beginning) be extended it’s as simple as hovering you cursor at the end of the event on your timeline, click and now you can extend it as long as you want.

[Dimitrios Papadimitriou] “click and now you can extend it as long as you want.”

And that Click has to be on the Match Length Control, whilst that Text Event is Selected, then the NEW Stretched Length is Reset, otherwise the Text Event will, after being Stretched, have Repeat Notches on the Top Edge.

And still no Screen Grab Derek? Allow us to assist you.

Well it’s not, really it’s not. Here is my ScreenGrab. It consists of the Lord’s Prayer spanning over 2 hours over the Desert Scene GenMed:

is the text static? The notches shouldn’t matter unless it isnt. Hopefully Derek isn’t gonna be in the wilderness for 40 years

[Dimitrios Papadimitriou] “is the text static? The notches shouldn’t matter unless it isnt.”

I like to keep things as clear as possible. This way any change issues can’t be leveled at the Matched Length. This has bitten many a New User.

Dimitrios, it is only a Graphic – please don’t worry. ????

thanks for all the replies, appreciate it. Here is what a sortof noobie in any programs needs. A tried and true method with step by step procedure. When I was learning how to record music, I started with Cool Edit Pro and somehow ran into a guy on the Net who helped design it. H e went out with Sarah Mclaughlin and helped her get started. You have to have people like this show you how to work inside and outside a recording. Anyway, so for my next video will try a longer running text box, so how do you tell the proggie how to extend it, then it what manner do you type in the text? By the way ,the video is coming out quite good….recorded guitar and vocals, then brought it into Reaper and added, more tracks, will mix down, then bring back into Sony Vegas Pro….!
