I’m on a Mac Tiger system and have no problems with other Maxtor and Lacie drives.

I just got the Maxtor 1 Gig. I connected it to my system correctly (it’s Mac ready) and it worked. I turned it off and later back on and it didn’t recognize my new firewire. I turned it off again, and it did recognize it. Later turned it off again and when turned back on, it wasn’t recognized. I simply turned it off, and there the drive was.

I ran disk warrior on it and no problem.

I’m concerned as I’m about to load up approx. 60 hours of material and am worried the drive is defective.

Is there a solution? Should I reformat it?

I’d take it back, but I’m more angst-ridden than most when it comes to such things.

But yes, you should always reformat drives when you take them out of the box, even if it says it’s already Mac formatted.
