Add extra room at bottom of clip for subtitles, OR move clip up slightly so more room at base for subtitles?
Hi,
pretend I had this picture….
<a href='https://images.creativecow.net/304085/captureclip.png'><img src='https://i1.creativecow.net/u/304085/captureclip.png' border='0' /></a><a href='https://images.creativecow.net/304085/captureclip.png'>captureclip.png</a>(I don’t think that worked but it’s basically an up-close picture of a person with a bit of room above their head at top of frame and very little room at bottom because there’s some information written there.)
and that was pretty much how my video looks a all the way through – i.e. people up close speaking. There is title/text which needs to be seen at the bottom so I can’t go over that with my captions.
I tried captions at the top of the screen but it covered the person’s forehead for most of the video and looked strange.
So, there’s a bit of room at top and a bit of room at bottom. I’d like to move the whole video footage up slightly so there’s enough room at the bottom for me to have captions the size that I want.
So, I would be moving the person up closer to the top so there’s more room at the bottom for my captions.
Is this possible?
I tried ‘border’ but that just put a border around all four edges and what I really want is to move the picture up.
I’m rendering to mp4 with captions ‘burned in’ as text boxes over the top of a solid colour (media generated).
I just want a clear area that I can use so that I’m not constantly changing sentence lengths or moving boxes around to compensate for text on the screen that must stay viewable whilst captions are on.

Why not simply have your subtitles on your video, at the bottom without
moving the footage, and no background boxes!
Use a legible font with a neutral color and a very faint background shadow.
This method looks a lot more professional, and far better than the old look
of captions with white text in black rectangles…Steve Rhoden (Cow Leader)

You should be able to use Track Motion to move the video up and make room for the captions (on another track) at the bottom.

I felt it looked distracting. At times tHeres a picture on the left with someone’s name and job title, then same on the right but different person. Then in the middle there’s keywords flashing up every now and then. Too much going on.
I didn’t know white on black box was old school, that shows how out of the loop I am.
What’s your go to captioning format?
