  • add embedded timecode to .mp4 video rendered in Vegas 12

Posted by Larry Brewer on December 18, 2015 at 11:00 pm

I need to “re-stripe” timecode onto a video clip in Vegas 12. To be more exact, I need to embed timecode that starts at a certain time and render a new clip that has that timecode, and not time code that starts at 00:00:00:00 on the orig clip.
How can this be accomplished? Thanks in advance.

As far as I know it can’t be accomplished because the MP4 File Format has no specification for Timecode. You would need to render to AVCHD in an m2ts container which can carry timecode but not .mp4.

Your Professional codec/containers will have timecode support. For example rendering to XAVC, HDCAM, or XDCAM will save the timecode set on the project timeline.

From the timeline, you can right click the timeline, and select “set time at cursor.” Then the .MXF file you render from Vegas will have the correct timecode you specify.
