i need add a football texture to a background for a graphic. I have a photos but i need a pattern that is flat so that it will go smoothly across the background. I have tried to make a pattern but it looks like crap. Does anyone know where i can get a tutorial or ideas on how to create a texture like this? I am basically trying to add some texture behind some score text.

    Give this a shot:

It’s a tileable (horizontally and vertically) basketball bump map that I made for a 3d basketball, but it should work fine for a football too. You could use it in conjucntion with a dark brown or leathery textured background to create the bumps you need. Let me know if this works for you.

it works great, is there a way to get it to bulge out a little to add some depth? I have never used a displacement map before, is this what i would need to do to create the bumps to get some texture.
