Achieving this effect?
Hello,
I’ve been asked if we can fix this problem in-house rather than going to a post house and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.
The subject was shot against a white background, but the cameraman set the white balance to get the right skin tone as opposed to getting the background white, as a result the skin tone looks nice, but the background is pink.
Now, the other problem is the the edges of her t-shirt are really blown out, and this is amplified when I adjust the white balance.
The post house seems to have done a good job of bringing back the edges of the t-hirt and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how they might have done this. Is this only possible using masks? Or is there another way of achieving it?

I would use the 3-way color correction.
IN the high-lights, drag away from pink.Your attempt went to far as you can see.
Check your scopes, Get the white level down to 95% or so.
Pull a little away from pinky-red on all 3 wheels.Chris Tompkins

What is important is that you pull a clean key that separate the elements. Don’t worry if to get the key you screw the color of the girl; that can be fixed later.The camera have made impossible to get this done by any color key.
You can’t use Chroma key when the elements you want to separate have the same color (as the face and wall), so no much point in playing with the pink because the pink is everywhere.
You need to fix this with few masks.
Chroma Key will work for the hair and T-shirt, but not in the face and neck.
So, after firing the cameraman, I would try there with some kind of luma based mask.
You may need to apply some matte or rotoscoping, depending on the picture movement.

Thanks for your responses. Unfortunately reshooting is not an option as we are based in London and the shoot was done in Scotland.
Looking more closely at what the post house did, I think they took a still frame, cut a matte around the t-shirt, corrected the matte the turn the highlights on the t-shirt blue, and then corrected the face/background separately. Then key-framed the still t-shirt to move as the girls shoulders move. The more I look at it, the more shoddy it looks. She looks like she’s wearing a suit of armour.
But hey, the bosses are happy with the work the post-house has done, they just want to know if I can replicate it, which I think I can.
