    Hello,

I’m shooting video with a DSLR, 30fps. The image is great, but on a TV monitor, any type of camera movement screams “video” in appearance.

What is the best way to make this footage look 24fps?

I’ve read other threads about de-interlacing, applying blur, FieldsKit, Magic Bullet Frames, etc…

I’m editing in FCP, and have tried to apply blur, but it doesn’t look right. What type of blur and how much give the desired effect.

Is FieldsKit the best plug-in to buy? Does it really work?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure to set your DSLR shutter speed to 1/60th if you’re filming at 30fps. 1/50 at 24fps.

That’ll give you the motion blur typical of a 180 degree shutter on a film camera that looks “filmy”

I just found some new threads that cover this subject….

My new question is this, what is the best plug-in to buy to get the 24p look, and is it that much better than converting the footage yourself in compressor?

There are plenty of literature about how to get that look, but all of them, as David, will tell you:
Start by shooting like for a film.
    24p and film like lighting.

Thanks everyone… I’m shooting with the 5D, so 24p is not an option at this point. Does anyone have experience with Nattress Film Effects? They claim to do 24p conversion.

Reid, that DSLR guide is sweet, thanks for the link.

Paul you can try Compressor, setting the Control Frame ON, and in the Time-base filter “Better”, no “Best”.
You can try as well MPGStreamclip (free).
Whatever the way you choose, export to Prores.
