    Hello
I want to try out ACES on the next job I am about to start which involved footage shot on Alexa in Log-C ProRes4444.

As far as I know from this forum I set DaVinci to ACES color science in the Project tab, and then in the LUTS tab set the InPut Device Transform to Alexa and the Output to rec.709 (since this is for broadcast).

Is there anything else I am missing or need to be aware of. Previously I was using the 3D Display & Output tab with the log-c>rec.709 LUT mentioned in threads here – as opposed to using the default one DaVinci comes with. From there I would just start grading but I know one could also not use any of this and for example add an s-curve as a starting point in node 1.

I would really like to get some thoughts on workflow not only with Log-C but 5D and RED when using ACES.

    Thank you
    Andrew

when i tried the ACES was a bit buggy using the HUE curves (image got crazy as soon a hue curve is touched , i remember that a couple of others tools were a bit buggy …

PS:working with RED and ACES was definitely more Buggy : banding in the image , wrong ISO Gamma ACES transformation LUT…

i have not tried in the latest 8.2 …

    Yikes.
ok maybe i wont use ACES yet 🙂

Would people agree with the LUT in Output & Display method as a good starting point in DaVinci when grading Log-C material?
    thank you

I built my own on the Arri LUT builder site but as far as I know (peter, dan or rohit can chime in here) the stock one is essentially the same thing LOG C – 709.

The thing that can sometimes get you is if your program has mixed material. I had a project two weeks ago where I thought everything was Alexa LOG C HQ and it turned out some B-Roll was linear and I was starching my head wondering why that stuff looked so bad. The fix is just to apply the LUT on the node level instead of the project level
