access tapeless footage via SDI?
Hi everybody,
i have vainly spend some days with searching a answer in the web, so i finally decided to post my question. I’m from Germany, so please apologize my bad english.Short: Is it possible to access the content of P2 cards via SDI?
My Gear is:- Interface: DeckLink SDI card@PCIe in combination with Intel Mac Pro -> FCP (i also have the ability to install the DeckLink card into a PC -> Premiere Pro)
- Camera: Panasonic AG-HPX171e (tapeless P2)
I don’t have a P2
What works: live-streaming via SDI, batch access to the P2 content via FireWire. Works great!
What doesn’t work: copy footage from the P2 Cards to my Mac via SDI.
The Camera of course doesnt have a RS232 interface, but i wonder if this would be required since there are no tapes (read about this in some threads…probably you can forget about this…).
I didnt want to spend money for a P2 Cardreader, because the traffic bottleneck is alsways the FireWire interface. Couldnt I connect the camera-SDI-OUT with the DeckLink-SDI-IN and access the videofiles on the P2 Cards, just like you can do with FireWire?
My final goal is to connect via SDI, choose in FCP “log and transfer” and copy with the speed of SDI.
If this is not possible, can anybody explain why it is not? Is it just a software limitation?I’m grateful for every answer !

No it doesn’t. SDI is a video interface, not an IT data interface.

FireWire. USB. That’s what you use. If you have the camera, read the manual. It tells you what to do.
