    Hey

Just struck a problem, and I was wondering if any1 could help?

I have 2 objects and a light in 3d space, the foreground object is casting a shadow and the background solid is receiving it, but, and here is my query, is there a way for the background solid to accept the shadow only but otherwise be transparent? The effect would look like the shadow is cast onto nothing.

    Any ideas?

Actually kinda just worked it out, but if you have a neater way to do it…

If you set the background solid layer colour to white and change the layer transfer mode to multiply then the effect will be achieved, but I wonder if there is another way to do it?

    Any thoughts?

That’s the way to do it. If Adobe were to implement an “Accepts Shadows Only” option it would undoubtedly give you exactly the same result as this method, but for some reason they aren’t interested in making it (slightly) easier to achieve.
