I just bought a powerbook. I bought it with the understanding that it had FCP 4.5 installed with the disks. I’ve come to see that it’s actually the academic version loaded, not the pro version.

What is the value difference here? Can I upgrade to the pro version? How much would it cost? What are the differences between the academic and pro versions? I do professional corporate and broadcast editing. Thanks for your help

There is no upgrade path for academic version of FCP. You need to purchase the retail version at full retail price.

There’s no difference between the two versions, except the ability to upgrade to newer versions. I asked that question at NAB, and this is what I was told. I do know that Adobe products are different between the regular verison and educational version though, just a heads up.
