I realize that my camera records audio at 256 Kbps. I had previously been using Dolby Digital AC-3 Studio. This renders at 192 Kbps. I see that there is the Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro option available with Vegas Pro 10 that will allow me to render at 256 Kbps. It seems at first glance that this would be preferable. There are, however, a number of other settings with AC-3 Pro. I had read in a prior thread after doing a search of this on the COW that dialog normalization should be set to -31. John mentioned setting this to -30. The default is -27. What exactly does this setting accomplish and what does adjusting this setting do? It was also suggested to set Preprocessing Line mode profile and RF mode profile to none. What is the right way to handle AC-3 Pro settings? Are there any other settings to adjust to optimize audio? Thanks.

It controls the overall volume of the audio. Some feel that at -27dB the dialog audio is too low when compared to other “Hollywood” DVD’s. I felt that -31dB was too loud so I set mine at -30dB. It really depends on your content. Run a few tests and see for yourself.
