  • Absolute problems with FCP 6 and EDL’s!!

I’ve finally be brave enough to do some HD conforms on FCP 6.

    What is wrong?!

I open the FCP project emailed to me from the edito. He’s on 6.0.2 and so am I.

I take the master sequence (1 video layer, cuts and dissolves) and either make an Offline Media Manager project, or a CMX3600 EDL.

When I recapture at Uncompressed HD, every single clip is slipped 2-4 frames off! Without fail.

Both projects loaded offline from HDCAM SR to 1080/23.98 DVCPRO-HD. Kona 3 doing the offline AND my online capture.

Not surprised about MM screwing up, but an EDL???? Unless my system is really having a timecode drifting problem?

“every single clip is slipped 2-4 frames off! Without fail.”

If every clip is off, then I’d suspect a deck issue. Have you used this deck before? Has it worked successfully for you? If so, what’s different about this project?

Check your sequences and timecode settings. Is your sequence at the same framerate as your source tapes? There’s a million things to check. I’d suggest doing a short test sequence to verify every step of your process… starting with the deck.

You might be right Mark. I’ve been doing A/B timecode comparisons between their Timecode and mine… they’re off. Either I’m wrong, or they are. It’s a rental deck.

    will keep investigating.

Proof that years of experience doesn’t mean you’re above operator error.

I was using a 29.97 device control instead of 23.98. It was capturing with 30fps code, so it would go 1,2,4,5,7…. up to 29. hence all the clips were all over.

    duh.

    Amen my brother. 🙂

Hey, I always wondered, did you get your handle “CharlieX”
from that old star trek episode of the same name?

    10-4 big buddy.

I’m surprised you got it – most people think my actual name is Charlie.
