    Dear Sir or Mz,

I’m in trouble with the convertion between the NTSC and PAL.

I use Final Cut to edit the video chip.and when I imported a NTSC clip and then export it in the form of PAL,a piece of black and silence will appear at the end of the exporting clip automaticlly.

Would you please talk about the mechanism of the convertion used by final cut? Does final cut just stretch the clip or it just pick out 25 frams from every 29.97 frams?

    Thanks a lot.

You don’t do standards conversion within Final Cut Pro unless you purchase a plugin from nattress.com.
If you don’t want to spend $99…
You can export your sequence as is. Take it into Compressor… Select the appropriate preset within Advanced Format Conversions… Then in the Inspector, turn on the Frame Controls… Set the resize to Better and the Frame Rate Conversion to best. be sure to set the proper field domiance as well If your footage is interlaced (upper for all PAL except DV)

FCP itself cannot do proper standards conversion, as you discovered.

    thanks for your answer
and what’s the name of the plugin?
If I purchase and install it ,then the extra black and silence will disappear, right?

Dear Pale,I donwloaded a trail vertion plugin from natress.com to have a try,but the image quality of exporting clip reduced :it is kind of vibrating when played.you may feel as if the player can’t play it fluently.
what’s more,I notice that when I use the plugin to convert, the NTSC clip was supposed to NEST on a PAL timeline,I can’t understand the machanism for this action,Maybe you can enlighten me on this?
    Please help with the troubles,thanks.
