About dvd space
-I know my way on this, so you wont have much trouble with me-
I have “15” 700mb videos, each is about 45 min.
How can i make them fit in a dvd with motion menus? I know all of them wont fit in a dvd, but i also dont want one disc with just one video, at least 2 would be fine.
What should I do? Should i reduce some mb for these videos? Or does time factor(45 per video) is what matters most?
-I dont want to lose quality
-I tried using dvd architect once, (that time i burned a movie) and the final result was a red-orange looking video.
-Ulead takes an eternity and i only used this one to burn some cartoons (5 episodes, 25min each, 220 mb each)
but it a was a nice result…..
-I dont mind using other software, so please, gimme optionsTHANX for reading

It’s not the size of the files you need to worry about, it’s the duration. You should be able to easily fit two 45 minute video files onto a single disc. However, if your 45 minute files are 700 MB, they are already very compressed. What format/codec are they compressed with? If possible, try to get a less compressed video file before you bring it into Encore, which will re-compress video if it is not encoded to MPEG-2 for DVD.

The files are using XVID codec….. so what should I do?
By the way I also forgot to mention, they are 640×480, so I need to do something about the dimensions before importing them to encore, please tell me what to do!

P.S. I have CCE SP2 to encode, but if you say theres no need….then ok!

Xvid is a highly compressed format, and it throws away a lot of visual data to do it. If you plan to use it for a DVD, it’s going to have to be resized to 720×480 for NTSC or 720×576 for PAL, with the correct pixel aspect ratio for either format, and it will be re-compressed, which usually means more quality loss.
Do you have Premiere or another NLE?

Yeah, create a DV 4:3 project in Premiere, then import your Xvid files and scale them to fit. Quality may be nasty…

You’ll have to be the judge of how good or bad it is.
Best to not start with Xvid compressed video for your assets. If you could get uncompressed video, that will yield the best quality. DV codec will give good quality. (just don’t convert the Xvid to another format, as you’ll loose quality again).
