The use of some of the new $1400 AVCHD cameras as b-roll shots, along side
the HDX900 stuff on DVCPRO HD and other higher quality HD material is something we are
looking at trying out. I never liked HDV but it looks like the new AVCHD with the
15 MPS data rate isn’t too bad for this purpose.

My question is regarding Mac Pro slots etc.
If we have the KONA 3 card in whatever slot it’s supposed to be in,
can we put one of those Blackmagic $300 HDMI cards that connect to AVCHD
cameras via HDMI in another slot? Also if we had the Sonnet D800 and it’s card in the same
Mac Pro, can all these cards fit in there?

I know this is probably a question for our VAR, but it’s late, I’ve had a few glasses
of wine and I was just wondering.

Nope…one capture card at a time…can’t have two.

Either need to swap them out, or get another MacPro. Swappings cheaper…obviously.

I know it’s not shipping yet, but I see the IoHD had HDMI in/out.
Is this for HDV cameras? Maybe I could buy this instead of the KONA 3.

    Hey Dan,

I’d imagine it would be easier to choose a card and use a converter to get any other sources into it.

You just have to weigh your sources, monitoring needs, and mastering format and then make the call.

I love the IDEA of the IoHD, but nobody’s got one and worked with it yet.
I don’t want delays in starting playback. I don’t want stuff that’s “supposed”
to work that doesn’t until two or three updates down then road.
I’m spoiled by my Aurora Pipe Studio. I know most of you don’t have one,
but it’s choice. It just works. Unfortunately, Aurora is no more, so no HD version.

You are probably right Zak. Buy an HD SDI converter for HDV.
I see the price has come down considerably. They run around $600 now.
