About Alpha Transitions Apple posted today
Posted by Dan Riley on July 23, 2009 at 8:40 pmI downloaded the 750 MB file, but there isn’t any “read me” file to tell me how to install them into FCP. Anyone know where they go?
And also, I’m assuming they work in FCP 6? or only for new FCP7?Dan

July 23, 2009 at 8:50 pmI would bet on them being 7 only.
Though… don’t take me up on that bet yet 😛

July 23, 2009 at 9:16 pmFCP 7 only. They are just media files so you can store them where you keep stock footage. IOW they don’t get installed into the app.

July 23, 2009 at 11:12 pmActually I got them to work in FCP 6. I put the “lens flare” clip alpha matt version on video 2 centered above the cut below on video 1. Highlight the lens flare clip, go to modify-composite mode-screen, alpha type-none, reverse alpha. It’s a little fast for my tastes, the clip only lasts 30 frames, so I slowed it down 50%. Still looks pretty good. There is also a colorized version that I didn’t care for that effect but some may. For “Leaves” you need both the clip alpha on video2 (modify composite-screen, alpha-none) and the clip on video3 (modify composite-travel matte luma, alpha-straight). Looks nice. Did this on a 720p60 DVCPRO HD timeline.

July 24, 2009 at 12:57 amNice, but it’s a lot easier to pull off with Alpha Transitions themselves.

July 24, 2009 at 3:02 amNice tutorial for when I have my hands on FCP7. For now though, I can still use some of the downloaded transitions in FCP6, but with a little more experimenting.

April 22, 2011 at 9:23 pmDan, et al,
Can you refer me to these downloadable transitions for FCP 6? I am looking for them but can’t seem to find any online. I’d like something like the Alpha transitions in FCP 7.I’m using 6.0.6.
Thanks!
