I just bought a new western digital drive and as I capture clips to it, every 9 minutes and 25 secs the FCP stops and says there’s no more free space on the drive (there’s 300gb of free space.)
Then I save that clip and “capture now” again and captures the next 9 minutes and 25 secs and stops again. Is it the drive or the FCP that is aborting?

Is it a fat 32 formatted drive?

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

The drive is no doubt formatted Fat32. That format has a 2GB file size limit…FCP is running into that limit. Reformat the drive to MacOS Extended, then try again.

Well, I bought this one because it said compatible with pc and mac, but what the drive really needs to say is: I’ll be compatible to anything you hook me with, as long as it is not “fat” and/or older than “32.” Oh man, will we ever simplify things a bit in the tech world.

    Thanks a lot guys.

It is Mac Compatible. It works. But if you want to use it PROPERLY with a Mac, format it MacOS Extended. It is REALLY simple.

It doesn’t work that way. You have to manually format the drive. The two seconds it takes to format it would have saved you hours of your time.
