a tale of interlace flicker from NXCAM footage in Vegas 10
(partially crossposted from the Sony NXCAM forum)
This is more of a tip for users who may experience this problem than a question. I have solved the issue. The NTSC DV template in Vegas uses lower field first. The NXCAM footage I have shot is all upper field first. If you don’t make sure you have the ‘conform footage to project settings’ checkbox selected in your vegas project properties, you will get horrendous interlace flicker with horizontal motion.
And apparently that checkbox defaults to unchecked in Vegas 10, whereas every previous version that I have installed in my facility (I have 6, 8, 9, and 10 on various systems) seems to default to checked.
So if you’re using SD mpeg2 footage from the NXCAM in an NTSC DV project in vegas 10, you might check your project preferences to make sure that checkbox is checked.
