Can a wise FCP sage provide an answer to a simple riddle.

    I have a new project.

    I have FCP5.

Dieing to play in FCP5, dying to work in it, but have no time for a system melt down.

So, I’d like to experiment cutting some footage in FCP5.

The question- what would be a strategy for me to get a “straight cut” edit out of FCP5 into FCP4.5. Obviously, project files aren’t backwards compatible, but is there a way to export/import XML data, or a EDL, and import that “general” data into FCP4.5, should I need to quickly move back into the stable waters of FCP5?

    Hope this questions isn’t confusing….

    Hi Byrd

Theoretically, you should be able to export a straight cuts edit from FCP5 using XML and reimport to FCP4.5.
Make sure you use the compatible implementation of XML ie. v1.

Apple XML v2 is only supported by FCP5.

    Regards
    Peter
