A real turn off?
Posted by David Roth weiss on September 29, 2011 at 5:38 pmI heard a rumor that additional new features are coming to the Cow soon. When is the Cow going to institute its rumored user preference that will allow us to opt out of viewing posts by certain selected individuals?

September 29, 2011 at 5:56 pmHello David,
We are likely to have that live by year’s end from the look of things.
We have the Stockyard ready to roll out in public beta in the next couple of weeks, then we roll out the new video section which is absolutely killer, and then comes the redesign of the forums mechanism which should be happening during the December holiday slowdown period.

Can’t wait to see the Stockyard, and the rest sounds great too.

Do you want to do this because of me? 🙂

Of course not Stephen, I don’t hear enough from you. In fact, we may need a feature that prompts you to write more often…
I will admit, there are a couple of Cows who, as they say, “need to put a sock in it,” and a feature that acts as a “virtual muzzle,” allowing visitors to exclude selected Cows from our own personal pastures, could really be a welcome addition. Of course, there are some Cows who might want to muzzle me, and I’m perfectly willing to accept that.

December 13, 2011 at 6:29 pmHi David,
The StockYard took a lot longer than we thought it would as we ended up building the most advanced managerial functions for those who upload work into the StockYard.
Once it goes live — we are in the final private beta rounds now — we will begin launching some of the other areas we have been working on.
The filtering features will roll out with many of the new section/channel interfaces that we have been working on.
We haven’t forgot and the functionality is here, we just do not want to include it in the old interface. There are many other new things we have been working on and which will be added as we roll out the new channels.
Best regards,

“Completely understood! The filtering (or the virtual muzzle feature as I like to call it) will be a terrific addition, but it’s hardly not important enough that it should be high on your list of priorities.
In fact, who knows, maybe life on the Cow will become boring if we start sticking virtual socks in the mouths of others? It will be interesting to see what the dynamics really are once that feature is in place.
At any rate, I’m looking forward to seeing all the benefits of the hard work you and Abraham are doing when it’s ready to roll out Ron.

December 13, 2011 at 7:44 pmThank you, David, for the kind words and the vote of confidence. They are as ever appreciated.
Abraham, Sean and I have been hard at work and hopefully when it is all done — it has been a HUGE undertaking — people will like it.
It is definitely going to be a whole udder cow. ;o)

December 13, 2011 at 9:09 pmI’m a big fan of the COW and spend more time here then any other web site by a long shot. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the new site. Also, I buy more stock footage every year so I’m super excited for that as well. Keep up the good work!

I actually think not having this ability makes the COW a much more interesting place.
Looking forward to the Stockyard function, I’m in the process of logging hundreds of clips that we want to sell!
