I decided to quit working on a project, because it became very disorganized, with way too many layers, and the clips being spread far apart form each other. I decided to make a new project, but learned there was a lot of good material in the previous. So, is there a way to transfer a clip, or groups of clips, to the newer, more organized, project?

There is probably a better way, but if you have them exactly how you want them, can you mute out all but the tracks you want, set markers, and then render that particular section out as something lossless, like .avi, and then import the .avi into your new project?

Open two instances of Vegas. In one, open the old project, in the other, open the new project.
Select the clips you desire in the old project, copy them (singular or as a group) and paste them into the other instance of Vegas.

FWIW, avi is NOT a lossless format unless you use an uncompressed codec. Even this isn’t necessarily lossless as some chroma subsampling does occur.
avi is merely a container, like a brown paper bag. you can put a lot of various groceries (aka “codecs”) in that paper bag.

    Good to know.

    Thanks.

[Cyan Giger] “Yeah, Avi video has never showed up in vegas.”

    Huh?
I’ve been using & editing AVI files in Vegas going back to version 3.0.
Footage from miniDV camcorders is captured as DV-AVI.

avi video has *always* shown up in Vegas. The codec used in that AVI may not be Vegas compatible.
For example, an MJPEG codec may have been output from your camera, but it’s in an .avi container (that silly paper bag analogy again). Without an MJPEG decoder, you’ll not be able to see the images.

Then again, avi takes up a lot of space. I just use WMVs. Besides, it’s for youtube, so the quality is not that important. Thanks for the help, really helped with the project.
