  • A question about AVID DVD

Posted by Peter Groom on April 5, 2011 at 8:31 am

    HI
Im in the Uk so always work 25 fps.

    q1

I just made my 1st ever Blu ray disc, and when i reviewed it on an HD tv mostly was fine – playback good, audio goodm menus good etc.
BUT i noticed that the tv dis[play was showing it as 1080/24?

    Might this be because
    1) i got my and AVID DVD software sent from the US and is therefore only US compatible.
or 2) Because Ive a setting somewhere wrongly set (if so can you tell me what and where
or 3) Does frame rate really not make any difference on Blu Ray?

q2 I noticed that the video images running in the menu thumbnails are showing animorphic (ie with bars down each side. Any clues why this should be or how / where I casn adjust it. The video file was a quicktime reference export from AVID MC5.03 of a videomixdown using Hdxnd 185 codec.

Many thanks for any steers on this stuff.
    Cheers
    Peter

    Just a single question.

What Blu Ray authoring program are you using – this is more of an authoring issue than an Avid issue.

Wow, sorry for being dense (must have missed the title and just read DVD/Avid).

    1) @24- nope, nothing uscentric about Avid DVD. Should do 23.98, 25 and 30 for blu ray.
    2) – I only have the old version…not the blu ray (Sorry again!
    3) generally, you want the BluRay to match the frame rate of your material.

I remember reading a discussion where people advocated bypassing Sorenson squeeze and letting Avid DVD do the work (don’t know if you used squeeze)

I went straight from AVID as a QT REf into DVD. No Sorenson sq.
