  • A note on ATTO raid cards

Just a heads up in case anyone else is inadvertently running into this…

I’ve found that my ATTO R380 has a unique “feature” I only recently became aware of.
When my system reboots, (11′ mac pro) the ATTO drops from an x8 device to an
x1 device (and obviously speed drops to 1/8th).

I went 8 months before I realized something was wrong.

If I shutdown and fresh boot, its fine, only restarts cause the problem.
I’d guess the problem is on the OS side as it tries to prioritize between all the x8 devices (red rocket, atto, decklink..)

If you have an atto, you might want to just test that it working properly.

My Areca Raid card used to do the same from time to time. I had even setup a startup-script to test for the raid speed and alert me if it was unexpectedly low.
The problem went away when I changed computer, so I think it was a problem with a mac pro, not with the Card.
BTW, I don’t recommend Areca Cards, driver for os x was troublesome for me, I had to deactivate a lot of options to make it reliable.
