A Homebrew “Shine”?
Posted by Erin Shelby on April 7, 2006 at 7:11 amI love Trapcode’s “Shine”. It’s a great plugin, it looks great instantly, and it’s easy to use…
I also can’t afford it.
Is there anything in the AE library, or a combination of effects where I can get a shine-like result?

April 7, 2006 at 8:38 amYou can achieve a great deal with the built-in effects esp if you have the Pro edition. Then CC Light Rays, CC Light Burst and CC Light Sweep are all worth experiment with.
If you don’t have these, it may be more challenging.
At one time Adobe had an AE tutorial using a castle interior, demonstrating a light “rays of light” effect, which used just duplicated layers, directional blur and transfer modes, and which worked very well. But success probably depends on the source and patience, and may be quite time-consuming.
Good luck.

April 7, 2006 at 9:04 amCC has the effect but not as much control as Shine.
The Trapcode bundle is great, and it’s worth every dime in my opinion.

April 7, 2006 at 10:02 amThat would be difficult. Just like the others said, CC Lightburst, Directional Blur and Radial Blur are your friends, but it’s still pretty difficult to get similar quality. If you are a student, you should consider the academic licensing. Currently they only offer the plugin packs, but I’m sure if you talk to Peder directly, you could get Shine alone for an even smaller price.
