A frame rate and drop frame mystery
I have a bit of a strange one. I have just done a “reverse telecine” in Cinema Tools 2.2 on a clip that was shot on 35mm, telecined to 23.98 HDCAM, dubbed to DVCAM, and then digitized at 29.97. The key frames were A B B C D so it was Field 1 only, although in the TC burn it looked like a 1 with a 2 on top of it. Now when I play the clip in the viewer in FCP the key frames are A B D D with the first D underlined and the field # is 2. In my monitor which is connected through a Canon GL1 I see A B C D with a drop frame on C and the field number looks like the 1 with a 2 on top of it, this is also the way it was in the Cinema Tools window. In FCP there are no drop frames and it plays smoothly while in the monitor you can see the extra bit of frame very clearly. I’m not sure if the way I am explaining this makes any sense but I am quite confused. It seems that it works in FCP so maybe I shouldn’t be worried but the way it plays completely different on a monitor concerns me.
I am using FCP 4.5 HD on a 1.67GHZ Powerbook with 2GB Ram running 10.3.9Thanks
