I come from an Avid background and have spent the last few days kicking the tires on FCP. I have a few questions below that I can’t seem to figure out. There are a few, but I figured it might be easier to do them in one post as opposed to multiple. Thanks in advance, hopefully they should be easy ones…

-How do you delete one track of audio on a clip once it’s in the timeline. For example if I have an interview clip with A1A2 audio in the timeline then realize I don’t need A1 b/c it’s the camera mic and want to remove it. I’m only able to select both A1A2 clips.

-Is there one keystroke / hot key that will snap back and show you the entire timeline at once (as opposed to zooming out over and over again?)

-Is there a way to have a subclip reference back to its original parent clip? In my example I created a subclip but made it too short. the subclip is in the timeline but won’t allow me to trim it out further. I try and match back but it only goes as far as the subclip, not all the way back to the original.

-How do you stop the playback from looping? Right now when I play a clip in the source monitor it will loop itself at the end. This is very annoying.

-Is there a way to exit trim mode in one keystroke? Right now I switch to the arrow tool then click above the timeline. Is there an easier way to do this?

    Thanks again!

    1. First, unlink the video and audio using cmd-L. If your audio is set as a stereo pair, then you will need to unlink that using opt-L. After deleting the desired audio track, if you want you can then relink the audio and video by selecting both pieces then hit cmd-L.

    2. shift-Z

    3. I don’t think so. I typically don’t use subclips. There might be someone else who would know more about this one.

    4. control-L

    5. Are you referring to the Trim Edit command using cmd-7? If so, just click anywhere in the timeline. Changing tools doesn’t have an effect.

    3. Open subclip in Viewer, then Modify/Remove Subclip Limits

Use the padlock to lock say A1 then single click to highlight and then press the backspace key.

    Shift + z
