I am using AE CS4. Is there a way to actually have the audio play in realtime with out pushing the period button for preview all the time?

Ultimately I would like to be able to work in as realtime as possible much like Motion.

    Thank you,

    Dave

The period key on the number pad is the best option for a quick real time preview of audio. If you need to make visual markers for beats you can use the asterisk key on the numpad with the audio layer selected during the audio preview to create layer markers.

Otherwise you’re limited to using the 0 key on the numpad for a RAM preview (which may take some time to render the visuals) or holding the command key (or control on PC) while scrubbing for a very rough audio preview.

    Hi Darby,

both suggestions are’nt really a workaround whenever it comes working with audio in after effects, ok fair to say that AE is a pure compositing tool, but i’m asking myself – already for years now – why the hell is any movie playing back flawlessly if i double click it in the project window to open the player, and why it always comes to RAM previewing since the clip is in the comp timeline without a single filter added?

did the adobe dev guys forgot something or is it a task which is impossible to achieve?

don’t know how much request i already sent to them (Adobe) regarding this topic.

    cheers
