Is there a way of openning a SMOOTH circular hole on one cide of a cube object WITHOUT using BOOLEAN operation between cube and a cylinder (or extruded circle etc)?

ie. Is there a way of selecting cut region on the cube with spline object ?
    or any other method?

    Thx

You can do this with Arndt’s Edge Extrude Pro plugin, available in the Dairy Store. Can also be done manually with a bit of work. What you would do is subdivide the cube side, project the circle spline onto it, and use snapping with “spline” enabled to created a circular group of faces. Then select the polys inside the circle/spline & delete.

You could just make a cube editable_ select two opposite sides_inner extrude_select the two extruded polygons_Use the bridge tool across these polygons( you may have to turm on the Xray option in the Display menu)_select all the sides without holes in and hold down the period key and left grag_make a few knife cuts close to the top and bottom of the hole to tighten up the edges.

If in doubt scream and shout.

Come to think of it, the easiest way to do this is to create an alpha and map it to the cube’s side. 🙂
