960×720 vs 1280×720
If I import footage from my Panasonic HPX 170 at 960×720, then do a project in FCPX using 1280×720 will I lose some picture quality?
The reason why I want to do this is that when I export the video at 960×720 I can’t use iDVD because it squeezes the picture. The same thing happens when I try to burn a blu ray DVD. Bit if I change to the 1280×720 in FCPX and then export media it works fine for these.

No. Not really. It just means that your camera records the video anamorphically because it doesn’t have a large enough sensor to record the pixels at full resolution. Your final video would be viewed 1280×720 anyway.
