911 call copyrights?
For a action sports production we are working on we had to shoot over water at night with two helicopters filming the action. A funny result was the 911 calls that came into the local dispatcher that night. I happen to know the local sheriff and got the audio files on a CD, however he was unsure on if that is public knowledge (aka able to be used freely, commercially) the call we want to use in the edit has no personally identifiable information (aka name). Does anyone know anything about who owns the copyright for 911 emergency calls? I see them on TV all the time so there has to be a way.
Any help would be amazing!
