9000 or 10000?
Hi guys,
Im currently about to put a 4 minute movie teaser on vimeo, and i am using the youtube settings in compressor. Im just wondering what the best value for the kb/s would be? Im want to have flawless quality and In the vimeo guidlines it says 7182kb/s or something ,but to me that is far less quality. If anyone has any experience in this are could you please help me out. Thank heaps!

As high as is reasonable for your Vimeo space quota (unless you have Vimeo Pro of course). Vimeo, like Youtube, will recompress your video once it is uploaded to their system but you can eek out some extra quality, especially if multipass encoding is selected. I’d say, if upload speed isn’t an issue, anywhere from 16,000kbps to 20,000kbps is a good start depending on the amount of motion and the quality of the original footage.
This is all assuming 1080p with 30fps or slower.

Thank Angelo. All my previous vimeo clips i have compressed to 9000kbp/s and they have been ok quality but not great. Will changing the kbp/s to 20,000 effect the amount of time the clip takes to load when users click on it? Also i film surfing so there is lots of motion. At 25fps pal.

As I understand it, and as Angelo has stated, Youtube and Vimeo re-compress your data, so you cannot ultimately control the final output ie. the data rate it’s delivered at. Giving them a high quality file to start with will give you the best chance.
