    Hello,

This feels like a memory problem but according to my mac my memory is functioning just fine…

I’ve made a 9 camera multiclip of a concert. It was working fine until last night when it decided to play for about 10 or 15 seconds then the picture freezes up but the audio keeps playing.

If I hit the space bar it will start playing again but the same thing happens 10 seconds later.

I made another multiclip from the first 4 cameras as an expriment and that works fine.

I have 2 x 3.2 Quads and 8Gb RAM, all of which seems to be functioning ok.

My media and project file are stored on a 4Tb G-speed external drive, and I have 550Gb free. I have a 300Gb HD in the make, and it’s not even half full.

Any advice you could offer me will be most appreciated.

    Thanks a lot,

    Steve.

What format is your video in? RAM and processor power shouldn’t be an issue on your system. I’d say you’re external drive is the main issue. The FW (I assume its connected via FireWire) doesn’t support a high enough data rate to keep up with 9 simultaneous streams. That’s why it works just fine with only 4 cams. If your internal drive has enough free space, you could try moving the multiclip angles to your internal drive. Depending on what codec your using, that may or may not work.

Your hard drive sub-system is clearly not providing the necessary throughput for that many multiclip tracks.

Mike – I’m connected to an external G-Speed SATA drive, it’s not firewire so that’s not the problem, but thanks for your help.

David – I agree, but I can’t see why this issue has just occurred as I’ve had no trouble with the drive up to now. However, I did accidentally switch off the drive a few days ago while it was connected and in use. All manor of alarms started bleeping, but I’ve done this before on accassions without any problems.

So, I’ve just run a test on the hard drive and it’s definitley got a problem as it’s only reading at 49Mb and writing at 60Mb. The online test shows it to be rebuilding in the background – very slowly – so I’ll leave it overnight and come back to it tomorrow.

Thanks so much for your advice.
