9 Oscar Nominated Docs cut on Final Cut Pro

All grist to the mill for those of us who champion FCP. As an editor raised on Linear, then Avid, I much prefer FCP, but still come up against the old mantra that Avid=Professional. A certain Big Broadcast Company over this side of the pond have had a bit of a backlash against FCP of late, mainly because old Avid lags haven’t made the transition willingly, and seemingly look for reasons to go back to Avid. Now that’s fine if they’re legitimate concerns, but I don’t like being forced to cut on a tool that I don’t like using because of some old prejudices…
Still, twas ever thus, and I daresay it will be in the future… in the meantime, kudos to all who were nominated, that in itself is no mean feat!

No, my point was that it’s cool that 9 of the 10 docs were cut with FCP and it’s good marketing for those of us who run Final Cut Pro shops. Did you hear John Lasseter at the Academy Awards last night?

By the way the web designer who did “The Cove” website is also doing our Foul Water Fiery Serpent web redesign. The guy is really really good!

I was working with a network one time helping to transition a show from SD to HD. We had the best looking show of the new HD material coming in. Network was shocked to find out we were cutting in Final Cut Pro and not Avid.
The show didn’t look better because of FCP. It looked better because I spent 6 hours color grading each episode and the others apparently didn’t. And this was about a year before I first invested in Final Touch, so I was doing all the color grade with the FCP 3 Way CC / Broadcast Safe and Levels filters…..
