    Hi there,

    I am working on a project in 8718×3840, 60fps.
I have a couple of gradients, glows, my Project, bit depth is 32 bit.
I need to render out as 4 separate, rotated 4k clips for a 4 screen wall (the extra 87 wide pixel are for compensating the bezels between the screens, so all circles are round for example, when they overlap on the screens).

    – I preview quarter resolution, skip 2 frames, works fine
    – rendering out the full res, crashes AE, so I render out the 4 rotated quarter splits from AE, 3840×2160, 60fps
    – 32bit aborts render after a couple of seconds tried all, Media Encoder, Image Seqs… CPU only (wich I found was the most stable, so I switched Mercury Engine to CPU only)
    – Render out my 32bit Project to 8bit ProRes 422 works.
    – Empty Cache every 7 frames (secret settings in Prefs)

more than half of the time on this project I am working on technical issues, (some effects caused render fails, or flicker for example)

would better GPU help, like a 1080 ti with 11gb?

    My setup:
OSx 10.12.3 (tried win 10 too, same issues)
    64 bg Ram
    intel 6700k
    Gtx 970 4gb
    SSDs for Project
    AE cc 2017 & 2018

Any help would be so great, as time is a big factor.
    Thank you so much!!

Hi, did you get anywhere with this?

    Hi,
I actually solved it with a mixture of solutions

    – I rendered out in 8 bit, wich was totally fine
    – i rendered the individual 4x 4k , 60fps clips separately as it had to be stitched together by 4 synced players anyway.
    – i upgraded my Gtx 970 4GB to a Gtx 1080 ti with 11gb wich made working much more comfortable
    – in the secret Pref Settings in AE I set empty cache to every 10 frames, wich I later set higher again, but it`s a good starting point.
I still had a couple of render fails wich have been disappeared after the latest AE update.
I also found a couple of effects caused problems in 8k rendering (Glow for example) I tried to find out where in the render the fails happened and pre rendered the Comps or layers causing render fails. Took all quite a bit of troubleshooting time but worked all out in time.

So to ask a dumb question – is there a reason to render out at 32bit (for your project?) Is it possible the container you rendering out to doesn’t support 32bit? I know that they sometimes call quicktime with alpha “32bit” but that’s total number of bits across all channels (including an alpha) not 32 bits per channel.
Do I have that right? you were trying to render TO a 32 bit file?
