i’m with dave… 8 bpc is million’s of colors and would be a much smaller file size than 16 bpc, trillion’s of colors. it would also come down to the codec you were rendering to, and i’m betting that most of the streaming web type codecs would be 8 bpc.
to asnwer your second question, rendering to 8 bpc, then upconverting the render to 16 bpc should gain you anything accept file size…. however working in 16 bpc and rendering to 8 bpc may give you better results. this is due to calculating effects and blending in 16 bpc even though you will render to an 8 bpc codec.
note, you should be able to see any benefit by toggling through the bpc depth setting in ae. the preview window should show what effect the setting change has on your comp.
