I am using DVCAM PAL component input from a DSR1500 with DL Extreme card into FCP 5. I assume it is 8 bit so is there any advantage in digitizing at 10 bit for the video? I would use 10 bit for graphics but I wondered if effects would render at a better quality with video in 10 bit?

    Hope that makes sense.

It seems that 10-bit gives you 4x the colour sampling. So anything that you do in your edit that involves messing with the image is going to have better results in 10-bit. If it’s just a straight-forward edit with simple transitions then little advantage. Anything else I recon cut in 10-bit.

    My $0.02:

For DV footage, I use 8-bit, unless I am adding graphics with gradients, transfer-mode compositing or lighting effects. I don’t see a difference in color correction between 8/10 bit when using DV originated footage.
