  8-bit jpeg as 4k Movie Image Sequence Masters?

  Can anyone advise me on using 8-bit jpegs as a film storage? The original large format film came from scanned tape. It seems, to me, 8 bit jpeg storage is a bad plan. Can anyone give me specifics on why this is not a good idea. These are not jpeg2000. They are “jpeg Q100”. I’m looking for technical specifics.
