7d on moving vehicle

Hi there,

Im wanting to rig my 7d to a moving car and or motorbike, firstly my tamron lens has a stabilization feature which i use when hand holding but am not sure if this should be used in this particular application.?
Also, what about sony ex3 stabilization or is mountion on a car with any built in stabilization a bad idea?

Secondly, is the 7d a bad choice for these types of shots, ive been resding about rolling shutters etc and worried that the camera might just ‘freak out’

Any advice appreciated

It’s best to do some test shots with both cameras to see what you get before committing one way or another.

Adobe Premier CS6 now has a “WARP” filter to address the rolling shutter issue with DSLR’s. You’ll get a lot of jello and rolling shutter on a bouncy car.

Keep your stabilization on your lens turned on.

I have done a bit of testing with a 550d for a music video I was shooting. How fast are you going to me be going?

Have a look , when the actor is running, the 550d was attached to the car window.

I just bought the Digital Juice suction mount. It works great for this.

Thanks guys, your footage Looked smooth steve.
I bought a manfrotto suction cup in the end and attatched my 7d.
Used a shutter speed of about 125, IS off, and sandwitched the camera up with heaps of padding against the car. This worked sweet as.
Found that the IS just makes the rolling shutter freak out big time.
Was originally thinking about using my little canon hd hanycam for this due to its size and weight but after doing some tests the rolling shutter effect was atrocious.
All and all really happy with the dslrs performance.
