I am having trouble with the video from one Sony XDCam cameraman I use regularly. We shoot DV25 SD and I am using Premiere Pro CS5. His video properties are the same as other cameras with the exception that his reports being 720×486 instead of 720×480. When I import it as a file and drop it on a timeline, the red render bar comes up, but when I try to render it, I get an “error compiling movie, unknown error.”
I can play it in and capture it and it is fine, or I can reinterpret it to square pixels and then it plays but has to be resized and rendered. Avid imports it and plays it but Adobe Premiere does not without reinterpreting it.
I suspect he has a setting wrong somewhere, any thoughts on what that might be? Thanks.

If I check “Scale to Frame Size” the video will play but still needs to be rendered.

It should play in real time when scaled to frame size is on unless your system specs are way too low.

If it won’t play in a sequence with the correct XDcam preset it may have been transcoded?

Try creating a custom sequence with that frame size.
