hello all – hoping for some help (or maybe just clarity) –

    the basics:
    FCP 5.0.4
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    QT 7.2.0
    camera – Sony PD100A
shot normal (not anamorphic) – 720×480

when I look at item properties in a captured clip, frame size shows as 720×480. Sequence Presets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz 720×480, anamorphic off. Putting the clip onto the timeline, it is not asking for a render.

But in the Viewer and Canvas, it is showing squished (to 4:3). In fact, the Viewer and Canvas seem to be set up at a 4:3 proportion.

Opening the clip directly with QT, the Inspector shows the “Format” as DV, 720×480 (640×480). It shows the “Normal Size” as 640×480.

Looking at the Clip in a OS Finder window shows the Dimensions as 720×480.

so what is going on here? and how do I get this right?

    please help – Jonathan

    { I seem to remember in FCP 3 having to open a clip an select (or unselect) square pixels …. }

Click on the clip in the Browser.

    Hit Command – 9.

Place a check mark next to the box that says Anamorphic.

    Close the window.

Double click the clip to load it into the viewer.

    Better?

    Best,

    Tom
