    Hi,

I’m working on my demo reel and most of it is shot in dvcpro hd (1280X720) but I want to include a few DV shots (720X480). Everything is 24p. When I drag the DV footage in the hd timeline I lose resolution, big time. The pixels are very visible. How can I fix it?

    Thanks for your help

    Maxime,

Compressor does a great job uprezing 720×480 footage. You will have a frame rate issue, as your 720p footage is likely 23.98, no? Compressor can take care of this too.

Shane Ross hasa great tutorial on this.

On the other hand, depending on your delivery, you could just work in an SD format.

    Have a wonderful day.

Thanks Dennis, I downloaded the Magic Bullet Instant HD free trial version. The only thing is I don’t know how to install it so I can use it in FCP, or after effects. I never installed a plugin before. Can someone tell me? Thanks.

Here’s my DV to DVCPRO HD tutorial…

Doesn’t the MB INstant HD have an INSTALLER that you just double-click on?

Hi Shane, I watched your tutorial and it looks great. But I have Compressor 1.2.1 and I don’t think it works (I don’t see the advanced format conversion).

On the other hand, I installed instant HD and, after having followed the Magic Bullet tutorial I end up with 2 problems:
    1) Many weird pixels of different colors appear when I drag the effect on the footage,
    2) I can’t access the effect settings! According to the tutorial, I need to create 2 sequences, one with the source footage and one called output (in which I drag the source sequence), but when I click on the output sequence to see the effect settings, it automaticaly selects the other sequence (source). Just for a test, I put another effect on the output sequence and it works fine. I know it’s confusing but I followed the tutorial perfectly (well I think). Any suggestions… please? Thanks

Sorry, I don’t use Instant HD. I use my Kona 3 card and upconvert when I capture.

    Hi
Don’t double-click it. Click it once to select it, then press Return to open it in the Viewer so you can tweak the Filter.

Thanks, now I can change the settings. But it doesn’t improve my weird colored pixels problem. They are everywhere, blue, red, green, yellow. What is it? Anyone had the same problem? Also, when I click fit to fill, nothing happens. Thank you for your patience…

Ah. I remember now. That is because you are using the DEMO version. That is how they “watermark” it so you can’t use it without paying. But that makes it very difficult to judge how well it upconverts the footage. What a pain!
